Paperboard (or Cardboard) is made of generally thicker paper based material. While there is no rigid differentiation between paper and paperboard, paperboard should have a grammage of 224 grams per sq.meter. It can be single- or multi-ply and can be easily cut and formed. It is usually used in packaging and graphic printing, such as book and magazine covers or postcards.
Corrugated Board and Boxes production in India is around 7 billion sq meters. In India we have around 15,000 units both in organized and unorganized sector as large, small and micro scale. Kraft Paper is also produced in these units which has an installed capacity of 8.0 million tpa.
The industry is growing at a rate of 13.5 for the last 3-4 years. Most of the unorganized units and small players use semi-automatic units ? litho-lam board making with natural drying. On of the major reason which contributed to this structure was corrugated box for long reserved for SSI.
