Hospital Sector in India

Hospitals form the largest segment in overall healthcare sector followed by pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic segment. An upsurge in disposable income and urbanization leads to demand in quality healthcare and awareness are driving the hospital sector. Further, hospitalization cost in India compares favourably one-fifth of cost to developed countries. Even complex surgeries cost less in India. Other factors which are drivers are increasing lifestyle diseases, shortage of bed, growing health insurance coverage etc., However, there are shortages in IT related infrastructure compared to developed countries and there is less inflow of FDI into hospitals.
