Indian Aviation Sector

Indian Civil Aviation industry is at cross roads. From sluggish operations of Air India, the sector has moved to premium airlines, world class airports, low cost airlines making it one among the top 10 markets in the world. The passenger traffic is growing at double digits, freight, aircraft movements are expected to grow at 5% over the next 5 years.

To boost the aviation sector, the government of India, has widened the visa on arrival programme to 150 countries boosting tourism. It is also planning to list AAI and Pawan Hans Ltd in stock exchange to raise capital. It is also modernizing airports with introduction of biometric scanner entry in airports with Aadhar card. This projected growth, combined with India?s low air traffic density?72 compared to 282 in China and 2,896 in the USA?indicates untapped potential given the rising income levels and youth population.
